The Senior Advocacy unit of the Collier County Sheriff's Office is a specialized unit whose goal is to help create a safe community for our aging population. Unit members provide crime prevention education, assist the elderly who have been victims of crime, and provide referrals to community partners and outside resources. The unit also coordinates the county's Project Lifesaver program for autistic person and dementia patients who may wander. Citizens can also obtain the File of Life through our office. File of Life is a way to provide important medical information to first responders in an emergency.

The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) is a USDA program that provides a monthly kit of nutritious food to eligible low-income seniors in Collier, Charlotte, Lee, Hendry, and Glades counties. Shelter for Abused Women & Children offers The Brookdale Elder Abuse Response Program to meet the needs of individuals dealing with neglect, financial exploitation, physical, emotional, sexual and/or verbal abuse in later life at the hands of a spouse/partner, adult child, caregiver or other family member. The program focuses on providing seniors with information, emotional support, customized safety planning, direct services, community referrals and legal advocacy. Additionally, it is instrumental in educating the community, raising awareness and decreasing the rates of elder abuse. The Elder Abuse Response Advocate supports abused elders as they deal with the shame, hopelessness, physical ailments and economic stress that often negatively influence their ability to seek services while maintaining relationships with community agencies to bridge service gaps. SHINE is the “State Health Insurance assistance program for elder Floridians. SHINE provides educational materials and free unbiased insurance counseling to Florida elders, caregivers and family members. SHINE’s goal is to help elders understand and receive the health insurance coverage they need through Medicare, Medicaid, Prescription Assistance, Long-Term Care Planning & Insurance, and other health care issues.”
